Photography on vacation in Montreal – Be inspired.

“ Nothing happens when you sit at home. I always make it a point to carry a camera with me at all times…I just shoot at what interests me at that moment.” – Elliott Erwitt 1

Why is that when you go on vacation or visit another city, you see so many beautiful subjects and sights to photograph. I guess it is because we slow down and we enjoy the moment. I think there is a lesson here.

I was recently in Montreal to celebrate a friend’s landmark birthday and we did a lot of walking around the city. It had been a Cobblestone in old Montrealwhile since I have been in Montreal and I was excited to see how the city had changed. I was glad to find the classic and beautiful architecture the city is known for around my hotel. I was also glad to find lots of galleries with local artists. I came back refreshed and inspired and have this advice for vacationers who want to take some great pics:

  • LBuilding detail in old Montrealook up and get a great shot of the buildings and architecture.
  • Take the time to take it all in and frame a shot of something that inspires you graphically.
  • Bring your smartphone if you don’t want to be bothered with a lot of gear. Instagram is a great option for sharing those pics before you get home.
  • Check out the local bloggers and see what they are talking about what is happening in the city. The Best of Montreal Instagram post on MTLBlog has some very inspirational shots with a weekly blog that features the best photographs using #mtlblog.
  • Wander into the galleries to get a flavour for the local artists. Here is one that I visited in Old Montreal with a great website and lots of information on the artists –

Have fun and remember that when you are on vacation you are surrounded by great photographs.  Have a look at my Instagram for some more photos of Montreal. Au revoir
